Get Your Fill of Tasty Breakfast Items at the Santa Clarita Farmers’ Market
Santa Clarita, Calif. – Tempt your taste buds at the Santa Clarita Farmers’ Market, which offers much more than just delicious fresh produce and other traditional items.
The Santa Clarita Farmers’ Market has a wide range of food vendors all offering unique product lines and a variety of selections.
Fresh bakery items are available from Old Town Bakery and Yankee Doodle Bakery. Known for their “freshness and a smile,” the Old Town Bakery’s main specialty is their scrumptious sourdough bread which is available in a number of varieties including roseberry, red pepper and rye. “If we cannot pronounce it, we don’t put it in,” notes Michael Peyton, Public Relations Representative for the bakery. Another favorite at Old Town Bakery is their mouth-watering cinnamon rolls, which Inland Empire Magazine labeled “a find” in their December 2007 issue. Other popular selections include breads, consisting of cheese breads, cranberry, walnut, whole wheat honey plus forty different types of pastries. Old Town Bakery is owned by Donald Bishop and is a family-run business that utilizes many family secret recipes including “Carolina Cornbread” originally created by “Big Mama,” Bishop’s grandma.
Another family-owned business, Yankee Doodle Bakery also offers a wide variety of fresh items. Yankee Doodle is known for their delicious éclairs, cream puffs and cookies, with over twenty varieties available. Other favorites include fresh breads, such as apple, cinnamon, cinnamon raisin and the popular Jalapeno cheese onion. Cookie bags, loaf cakes with 12 different flavors, and specialty holiday cookies are also offered. All recipes are made from scratch with 100% butter and non-trans fat shortening.

Popping up fresh at the Farmers’ Market are bundles of delicious kettle korn prepared by Jack & Ellie White who run a family-owned business – Frontier Kettle Korn. The kettle korn is made fresh directly on the premises and patrons can watch the process before buying the yummy creation that is available in three different sizes with prices ranging from $2 to $6 per bag.
A business spanning three generations, Schreiners Sausages serves up 40 different types of sausages at their business located in North Glendale. Owner, Wally Schreiner, prides himself on the customer service and quality that is offered at the family-run business. The sausages are pre-packed and most are pre-cooked. Top favorite varieties include the Chicken Tomato Basil and Wally’s personal favorite, the Smoked Jalapeno Sausage.
Lines begin forming early for the popular You Love Crepes, owned by Vadim Kan. The Siberian native offers 10 types of mouthwatering savory crepes and 9 varieties of sweet crepes. All savory crepes are made with his own special spinach dough containing low carbohydrates with 70 percent spinach and 30 percent whole wheat. Kan also offers healthy choices including vegetarian selections and a “Slim Shape” crepe made with a variety of fresh vegetables and feta cheese. In addition to crepes, Kan also prepares three different types of omelettes with one originating from Andalusian, the southern part of Spain. Kan learned his trade at a culinary school in Belgium, but he uses his own creative talents and love for the profession to perfect his various selections. “Learning to create different flavors coupled with a good attitude and taking time to talk to customers has been a major part of my successful business,” noted Kan.
Delicious hand-wrapped homemade tamales can be found at the Santa Clarita Farmers’ Market from the Gourmet Tamale Factory, a family-run business owned by Magali & Robert Ortega. Customers can choose from seven different types of tamales including chicken, pork, beef, chili cheese, sweet corn, pineapple and vegetable. Chile relleno’s are also sold at the Farmers’ Market and everything is made fresh daily. Opened just three years, the Gourmet Tamale Factory has already gained the reputation of making the best tamales north of the border!
Fresh brewed coffee is offered to shoppers from the Rocky Roaster Coffee Company. A family owned business, owner Sergio Villela actually roasts his own coffee beans and picks out the best quality available. The delicious aromas fill the air with the brews, which are made fresh each day. Shoppers can select from 10 hot and 10 cold delicious, flavorable coffee drinks in addition to a variety of smoothies. According to Villela, one of the most popular coffees is the house blend consisting of Columbian, Costa Rica and Guatemalan coffee, a four star blend creation. When not at the Farmers’ Market, Villela operates a coffee shop out of Canoga Park and has a loyal following of customers.
With a strong influence from Europe, Mom’s Products can really tempt the taste buds with its large selection of Middle Eastern specialties. Owned by Ben & Sophia Azouz, Mom’s Products particularly specializes in Hummus, with 14 different flavors to choose from. Customers can choose from a variety of tasty salads including the popular Lebanese salad and artichoke salad. Mom’s Products is also known for their delicious grape leaves, falafel sandwiches and scrumptious spreads including Tzatziki sauce, a Greek spread and Tapende spread made with walnuts and pomegranate. A variety of delectable sweets such as Halva, a sesame candy with pistachio & chocolate and the all-time favorite, Baklava are also offered. Shoppers will also find a variety of flatbreads and all types of pita chips. Having been in business for the past seven years, Mom’s Products operates a restaurant in Orange County besides serving the public at the Farmers’ Market.

The Farmers’ Market in Santa Clarita takes place year-round every Sunday, rain or shine. Fresh from the fields to the table, the Certified California Farmers bring the freshest fruits, vegetables, free range ranch eggs, nuts, honey, potted plants and freshly-cut flowers, all at the peak of the season. The Market is open on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the College of the Canyons, Parking Lot 8, on Valencia Boulevard.
